2014/2015 Restricted Quantity Wine Kits from RJ Spagnols
For a limited time each fall RJ Spagnols offers winemakers outstanding wines from around the world through their restricted quantity (RQ) program. These Cru Select 16L kits are typically a notch above similarly priced kits from their year-round offerings – but they must be preordered. The first two will be arriving in December and the final two iin April. The order deadline for the first two is this Sunday, September 7, so please don’t wait if you are interested! CHILEAN CABERNET MERLOT

Chilean wines generally represent a pleasant compromise between the bold and fruity characters of California and Australian wines, and the subtlety of European style wines. This full-bodied Cabernet Merlot opens with a well-defined bouquet of dried prunes, blackberry, and raspberry. Some herbaceous notes and slight hints of chocolate complete the experience and make this an easy drinking wine with well-rounded tannins and a velvety finish. (Red, Oak Level: 4/5)
Pairs with…Seared lamb shoulder chops with dill, pea and parsley risotto, sweet potato gratin. A solid coupling with cheddar cheese.
SOUTH AFRICAN CHENIN BLANC SAUVIGNON BLANC

South Africa is the largest grower and producer of Chenin Blanc, which is prized for maintaining high acidity, even in hot conditions. Combined with This example is light straw-coloured, with pleasing aromas of apple, cantaloupe, spice, and subtle vanilla aromas that lift effortlessly from the glass. Medium-bodied and crystal clear, this wine is dry with a rich mouth-feel and a lingering mineral and tropical fruit finish. (White, Oak Level: 1/5)
Pairs with…Sushi, lightly grilled chicken, spring vegetables such as asparagus or peas. Try with a ripe Camembert.
ITALIAN AGLIANICO

Firm and intense, this dry red opens with savory aromas of tobacco, smoke, and rich dark fruit. Slightly earthy on the palate, notes of dark cherry, blackberry, and vanilla emerge over time. An easy-to-drink wine that has subtle and soft oak character.
Pairs with…Pasta pomodoro, beef fillet, eggplant parmesan. Cheese pairing: aged gouda.
SPANISH VINO BLANCO

This light-bodied crisp wine opens with delicate floral and lemon notes on the nose. Bursting with white peach and citrus on the palate, the Vino Blanco has a crisp and refreshing finish that is typical of a well-balanced Spanish white wine.
Pairs with…Antipasto, greens dressed in vinaigrette, calamari, and shellfish. Excellent with Asiago.
