Club Meetings

On the third Thursday of each month, homebrewers meet at Keystone Homebrew Supply to share the fruits of their labors. About 10 to 20 brewers, young and old, experienced and novice, bring their masterpieces to be enjoyed and their disappointments to be diagnosed. Recipes, tips, and tall tales are passed around with excellent homebrew and light snacks. The gathering starts at 7 p.m., except for December's meeting which starts after Keystone's extended holiday hours, 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Bring a bottle or three and join us. Membership is free and you don't have to join to attend.

Mark your calendar now, and join us for the fun.

Helping your homebrew club take home the coveted Keystone Cup? If so, then plan ahead to have your best beers ready to compete in the third Annual Malt Madness Homebrew Competition!

We’ll announce online and via email when we will accept entries for this event at both stores. Check out our Web site (www.keystonehomebrew.com), or the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers’ Web site for more details.

The 2009 Keystone Cup
Lehigh Valley Homebrewers' Comeback Wins Cup Again
Undaunted by Keystone Hops' 18 point lead after War of the Worts, LVH posted big gains on their home turf. At the Malt Madness competition, which had 450 entries, LVH roared back to take the cup home again in 2009.

The Keystone Cup competition pits club against club, with the winning club taking home the cup! The winning homebrew club will be determined by accumulated points from winning beers of each qualifying contest. Club affiliation is determined by the club listed on the entry forms (so don’t forget to include your homebrew club!).

The War of the Worts will be the first leg in the 2009 Keystone Cup. Malt Madness will be the second competition. Although our clubs have the home turf, all homebrew clubs are invited and encouraged to participate and many were representin' last year.

Best of Show Recipe: German Pilsner by Keith Seguine
Keith Seguine, Keystone Homebrew Supply customer and WHALES member, kindly shared his German Pilsner recipe which won Best of Show at the War of the Worts. Congratulations, Keith!

Send us an e-mail or stop by one of our stores if you’d like more detailed instructions and suggestions. If you have a cool spot in your house (65°F or below), but can’t maintain the 50°F fermentation temperature, you can make a good version of this beer using Wyeast #2112 California Lager yeast.

2008's Keystone Cup
We couldn’t have asked for a more exciting finish to the first Keystone Cup. The top two clubs were within 6 points going into the Malt Madness, the second and final leg of the competition. The Lehigh Valley Homebrewers were in the lead, and with the “home bar” advantage it looked liked they had it wrapped up. Keystone Hops demonstrated an impressive away game, though, scoring 71 points at Malt Madness versus 65 points for the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers. Both clubs finished with a combined score of 142 points leading to the tiebreaking calculation of BOS points in which the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers had 6 and the Keystone Hops had an incredibly close 5 points. Other clubs had some strong showings, as well, and can be proud of their rankings below. In the end though, the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers stood alone atop the standings, and their club name is the first to adorn the coveted Keystone Cup. Congratulations!
