Raised in Germany from Northern Brewer, Perle's combination of combination of good alpha acids content and good aroma made it very popular with brewers. High yields and good tolerance to most diseases made it attractive for most growers as well. Perle was quickly accepted in the Hallertau region in the early 1980s and is now grown in substantial quantities both in Germany and in the United States.
Characterized by a pleasant, fine, almost neutral flavor similar to Hallertauer aroma varieties. The somewhat fruity notes in the aroma come through with good effect in some beers.
