Philly Beer Week Events

OPENING TAP
Friday, June 3, 7-10PM
Celebrate the official kickoff of Philly Beer Week with us at the Opening Tap this Friday. There will be more than thirty breweries plus food, live music and special guests including Mayor Nutter, Joe Sixpack and even Benjamin Franklin. Better still, this year the organizers have come to their senses and there will be actual homebrew flowing! Last year, our own Aaron Fournier brewed a beer (“He Who Is Risen”) that was listed among Joe Sixpack’s top 10 beers served during Philly Beer Week. This year, Aaron ups the ante with is (soon to be famous) Sausage Fest Beer – and the Opening Tap is your one and only chance to sample it!

JOHN STEMLER’S COMING OUT PARTY
Friday, June 3, 6:30PM
Yes, our very own John Stemler is going to bat for the other team. What we mean, of course, is he’s going to be a professional brewer. His brewery, Free Will Brewing Company, will have some of its beers featured at the Blue Dog Pub’s Semi-pro Beer Fest this Friday starting at 6:30PM. One of our favorite customers and a superb brewer (Scott Rudich) is also launching a brewery, called Round Guys Brewing, and will be serving his beers there as well. Come support a couple of fellow homebrewers in their quest to turn this fun hobby into a grueling profession!

PBS 39 MICROBREW FESTIVAL
Saturday June 4, 2-5PM at Coca-Cola Park
Philly won’t be having all the beer fun this week.  This first year beer festival will be at the home of the Allentown IronPigs, Coca-Cola park.  Join Keystone Homebrew and the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers as we enjoy and participate (20+ home made beverages for your enjoyment) in what appears to be a great new event for the Lehigh Valley beer scene.  Get your tickets on Friday online for $25 or if there are any left for $35 at the door.  More info: http://brewfest.wlvt.org/

CLONE BREW WARS II
Sunday, June 5, 1-4PM at the City Tap House
Keystone Homebrew, together with Beers of Legend and the City Tap House, presents Clone Brew Wars II (or “Attach” of the Clones, as it is currently listed).  This is your oppurtunity to taste an amazing list of commercial beers alongside clones of those beers from some very talented homebrewers.  You get to be the judge and crown a winner, whose clone is the best. The beer list makes the $25 judging fee too good to be true! Here’s the list: Anchor Steam, Bells Two Hearted, Dogfish Head Raison De’tre, Firestone Walker Double Barrel, Founders Breakfast, Franziskaner Dunkel, Guinness Foreign Extra, Nogne 0 Porter, Ommegang Abbey, Rogue Dead Guy, Russian River Pliny the Elder and Stone Arrogant Bastard. Tickets are limited, but are available online now (and may be sold at the door if available). You won’t find a better deal during Philly Beer Week!

SIERRA NEVADA HOMEBREW CUP
Thursday, June 9, 8-11PM at Tavern 17
You still have a chance to compete if you can drop off your entries at our MONTGOMERYVILLE STORE by the end of the day Friday, June 3. If you have any tasty homebrews stashed, you owe it to yourself to enter. The prizes are fantastic, plus we heard a rumor that superstar brewer Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River may be one of the judges. The announcement party with Sierra Nevada brewers (and their beers on tap, of course) will be at Tavern 17 on Thursday, June 9. Everyone is welcome to attend (pay as you go). You can find rules and entry forms on our website:
