The L-Lactic Acid Test Kit is intended for measuring the L-Lactic Acid in wines to ensure that malolactic fermentation has begun. It is not always easy to determine if the appearance of bubbles following primary fermentation is the onset of actual MLF or merely a wine outgassing as it warms. This product, with a range of 10 -400 mg/L, can also be used to screen for high levels of contamination by lactic acid bacteria.
REASONS TO USE L-LACTIC ACID TESTS:
1) Tests can be used for both red and white wines, and require NO adjustments or pretreatments. Accuvin has developed a unique membrane, built into each wine test strip, which selectively removes interfering colored anthocyanins without affecting other wine components.
2) Knowing whether or not malolactic fermentation has started allows the detection of problems when they are small and require less extensive and expensive intervention.
3) Confirm the start of MLF by the barrel or by the tank with convenient Accuvin L-Lactic Acid wine tests strips, taking only 2 minutes from sample application to test result.
4) Grapes naturally contain no L-Lactic Acid. A small amount can be produced by some yeasts. An L-Lactic Acid level above 40 mg/L is considered a confirmation that MLF has begun.
