Lab Analysis: Brix Reading, Tier 1

Brix – Brix (also called Balling) represents the sugar content of the grape or fruit juice. Measured in degrees, one degree Brix is equivalent to 1 gram of sucrose in 100 grams of solution and represents the strength of the sugar solution as percentage by weight (% w/w). It is recommended that Brix levels are between 22 and 24.5 degrees for red or white grape juice. For Tier 1 testing we use a refractometer.
