Lab Analysis: Residual Sugar Reading, Tier 1

Residual Sugar (RS) – Residual Sugar represents the amount of unfermented sugar in wine, and is indicative of the level of sweetness. RS is represented in grams per liter (g/L) of wine or as a percentage where 1 g/L is equivalent to 0.1 %. Generally, a wine with less than 0.2% RS is considered dry, while a wine with 0.4% RS may be considered off-dry. Sweet wines may have RS levels greater than 3.0%. For our Tier 1 test, we use a Hanna 902 Titrator.
